My hometown is a small city in north Iraq called Duhok. The numbers of the mosques in Duhok are equivalent to the elementary schools. Friday is the religious speech day in my hometown. Each mosque has a number of voice amplifiers on top of the building. The sound of the speeches that come from the mosques intersects with each other consequently it is hard to understand it.
The Imam, who is giving the speech, has a higher place from the people inside the mosque. His voice reaches miles outside of the mosques through the amplifiers. Everybody sits down on the ground and listens to the Imam very carefully. Nobody is allowed speak or express disagreement during the speech. Those images of a highly regarded person and his voice every Friday vibrate in my head and my memories.
